This coming week is special anniversary connected with one of our favorite places on earth! The Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area was established on November 17, 1986, by President Ronald Reagan. The Act endeavors to protect the region's stunning environment while also supporting its economic development. The area consists of 292,500 acres located in both Oregon and Washington. There are so many fantastic stories related to history of this region from Lewis & Clark to the Oregon Trail, but today we thought we would focus on two other tales that might not be as familiar to you. To celebrate the anniversary, we are sharing with you two programs today for FREE from our Columbia/Snake Rivers Virtual Cruise. FREE HISTORY PROGRAM: "The Historic Columbia River Highway" This 30-minute video presentation tells the story of the characters and events that brought to reality the first paved roadway in the Pacific Northwest. It was planned with great vision to be not only an economic corridor, but a scenic roadway park to connect locals and visitors to the beauty of the Columbia River Gorge. This is a truly inspirational story! The video presentation will be free of charge for one week (November 15-21) but we do provide an optional easy way for you to add a gesture of support as you access the video. CLICK HERE FOR ACCESS TO "THE HISTORIC COLUMBIA RIVER HIGHWAY" PRESENTATION AND...ENJOY A FREE HISTORY/MUSICAL PROGRAM: "Woody Guthrie: Tunes and Tales of the Columbia River" Explore the bizarre story of Woody Guthrie's role in promoting hydroelectric power and the beauty of the Columbia River Valley. There are not too many stories where a folk singer is hired by the federal government! We'll share Woody's involvement and impact and perform a few of the songs he wrote about the region. Enjoy!
