New "Delta Queen" book now available!

Hello, friends! We are back on a Lower Mississippi River cruise and enjoying the warm sultry weather and meeting wonderful guests. Being on this part of the river brings back so many memories for us as this is where we started our cruising careers.

We have worked onboard many riverboats over our 25-year career. One very special boat holds the dearest place in our hearts and is the subject of Bill's latest book in our History Highlights series. We were honored to work onboard the final (for now!) cruising season of the Steamboat Delta Queen back in 2008 and also when she was docked in Chattanooga, Tennessee in 2009. The memories of working on the last authentic overnight paddlewheel steamboat in American history are forever etched in our minds.

Her story is fascinating and we are proud to share it with you in this brand-new and exciting book. "THE STEAMBOAT DELTA QUEEN"

On June 2, 1927, this "million-dollar boat" set off on its very first cruise on the Sacramento River. But that was just the beginning of her long and astonishing career.

This is not only a tale of an amazing steamboat, but also a story of the myriad of dreamers who worked tirelessly to keep her afloat. One of those caretakers was Letha Greene. Her husband Captain Tom Greene had purchased the boat and brought it all the way from California to the Mississippi and Ohio River system in 1947. Letha wrote of being filled with:

…nostalgic memories of misty fog in the night, wet drooping willow branches, peaceful sunny afternoons, color-splashed sunsets, landing whistles, the clang of engine room bells and the bumping of lock walls. And I would hear again a welcome dinner gong, brisk organ music, smell the tempting aroma of broiling steaks, here the splashing of the paddle wheel or watch with awe the swollen flood waters.

Those of us who had the cherished opportunity to cruise on the Delta Queen certainly agree with Letha's description! Enjoy more of these beautiful quotes, interesting characters, and the detailed history of this magnificent steamboat in our brand-new History Highlights book.
